The Privy Council, after considering any objection made to a scheme submitted to them by the General Medical Council under this section, may, if they think fit, by order confirm the scheme, 5 either without modification, or with any modification therein made after communication with the medical authorities concerned and the General Medical Council.

Every such scheme when confirmed shall come into operation on the date of the order confirming it, or any later date mentioned in 10 the order.

Every scheme made in pursuance of this Act shall be laid before both Houses of Parliament as soon as may be after it is confirmed if Parliament be then sitting, and if not, as soon as may be after the commencement of the then next session of Parliament.

If the Privy Council refuse to confirm a scheme, the General Medical Council shall forthwith cause to be framed, and sanction and submit to the Privy Council, a new scheme.

17. A medical board under a scheme shall from time to time hold examinations according to the scheme and examination rules for 20 the time being in force under this Act, and subject thereto in such manner and at such places and times as the board, subject to the supervision of the General Medical Council, think expedient.

If it appear to the General Medical Council that a medical board fail in their duty either by not complying with such scheme or 25 examination rules or by not conducting the examinations in a satis- factory manner, or by not giving to that Council such information as they require respecting the examinations, or by requiring or making any attempt to require a candidate to adopt or refrain from adopt- ing the practice of any particular theory of medicine or surgery, the 30 General Medical Council shall represent the same to the Privy Council, and the Privy Council, may, if satisfied of such failure of duty, order that board to perform such duty or desist from such failure and if the board do not comply with such order may by order dismiss the members of the board, or any of them, and 35 direct fresh members to be appointed, either by the medical authorities who appointed the members so dismissed, or by the General Medical Council, or in such manner as is specified in the order, and the members so dismissed shall be disqualified for re-appointment.

ficates, shall with respect to each of the persons who have passed A.D. 1879. such examination, and paid the required fees, and otherwise com- qualifying plied with the conditions of the scheme for obtaining the qualifying certificates certificate, certify that such person has shown by examination that with a right to diplomas. 5 he is qualified under this Act to practise medicine and surgery, including therein midwifery, and shall do so by sending to the medical registrar and to every medical authority a list, certified by the board, of the names and addresses of all such persons, and each medical corporation shall, and any other medical authority may, from time to time send to the medical registrar a list of the names and addresses of those of the said persons who are attached to that corporation or authority specifying the medical diploma by which each of them is so attached, and the registrar upon payment of the registration fee may register in the medical register every 15 person named in the last-mentioned list without application from

A scheme under this Act, besides providing for the constitution, proceedings, powers, and duties of the medical board, may provide for the relations between the board and other boards and the 30 General Medical Council, and for the fees to be paid on admission to the examinations of the board, which fees shall be of the same amount in every part of the United Kingdom, and generally for such matters as appear to be necessary or proper for carrying into effect the scheme. The scheme for a medical board in any part of the United

35 Kingdom shall also provide for paying out of the said fees the expenses of the examinations and of carrying into effect the scheme in that part, and for paying the cost of continuing to maintain under the control of any medical corporation of that part any such medical museum or medical library, or both, as may before the 40 passing of this Act have been ordinarily maintained for general public purposes by such corporation in their capacity of granters of
